This year, the UN Human Rights Office for Europe is compiling a book list of human rights-related novels with recommendations from people all over Europe.

On 8 July, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) shared its recommendations to inform the elaboration of the 2026-2030 EU anti-racism strategy.

Following the European Commission’s priorities and workplan for 2025 and the preparation of the new EU LGBTIQ+ Strategy 2026-2030, the United Nations Team in Brussels (UNBT) took part in the discussions around priorities and ways forward for the new policy cycle.

On 27-28 January 2025, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk concluded a two-day visit to Brussels, engaging with senior European Union officials, civil society representatives, and members of the European Parliament. The visit underscored the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing pressing human rights challenges, and fostering opportunities within and beyond the EU.

On October 8, 2024, a pivotal meeting took place at the UN House in Brussels, bringing together over 80 stakeholders, including representatives from civil society, national human rights institutions (NHRIs), academia, and international organizations, to discuss challenges and ways forward to better support and protect Environmental Human Rights Defenders (EHRDs) in wider Europe.
