Brussels: On June 28, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) launched two reports highlighting the human rights situation of persons in institutions in Europe and Central Asia.

UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, Rashida Manjoo, is visiting Brussels to meet with various EU interlocutors and Women’s Rights Organizations.

On 8 July the Regional Office for Europe held a Judicial Colloquium on the Implementation of Article 3 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

On 28-29 March 2011, the Regional Office for Europe organized a regional follow-up workshop on the recommendations addressed to European States through the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and other human rights mechanisms.

On 5-6 April 2011, the Regional Office for Europe co-hosted the Annual Meeting of the Inter-Agency Panel on Juvenile Justice – which consists of 13 UN agencies and NGOs active in the area of juvenile justice.

During her one-day visit to Brussels on the 23rd of February, UN High Commissioner Navi Pillay held a series of meetings with various EU counterparts.

On 10 February 2011 the Regional Office for Europe of OHCHR launched its first publication during a workshop on the Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred that took place in Vienna.

More than 500 people came to Brussels’ prestigious Bozar for an event to mark Human Rights Day, organized by the Regional Office for Europe and hosted jointly by the United Nations and the European Union. The film Children of War, the winner of the Geneva Humans Rights Film Festival, was introduced by its director Bryan Single and by international human rights activist Bianca Jagger.
