OHCHR submits findings to support the upcoming EU LGBTIQ+ strategy
Following the European Commission’s priorities and workplan for 2025 and the preparation of the new EU LGBTIQ+ Strategy 2026-2030, the United Nations Team in Brussels (UNBT) took part in the discussions around priorities and ways forward for the new policy cycle.
Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) – Regional Office for Europe has prepared and submitted a summary of findings and recommendations stemming from the reviews that the UN Human Rights Mechanisms have undertaken of EU member States since the beginning of 2021, in the area of LGBTIQ+ Rights. The Summary aims to supplement the data used for the preparation of the new EU policy and to support the national level implementation and monitoring, as well as to bring closer the universal and regional levels of human rights protection in this area.

the UN Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity also released a statement on the EU LGBTIQ+ Equality Strategy 2026–2030, calling it a significant reaffirmation of the European Union’s commitment to equality, human rights, and democratic norms.
