
OHCHR Shares Recommendations For The Next EU Anti-Racism Strategy
On 8 July, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) shared its recommendations to inform the elaboration of the 2026-2030 EU anti-racism strategy.
The document is informed by consultations with over 300 civil society actors and was shared with the European Commission, focusing on:
- Implementing international human rights obligations of and commitments by EU Member States and
- Recommendations by international human rights mechanisms.
- Addressing the legacies of the past in order to eliminate today’s contemporary manifestation of slavery.
- Strengthening the meaningful, inclusive and safe participation of affected communities and individuals in the development, implementation and monitoring of the implementation of the 2026–2030 EU anti-racism strategy.
- Ensuring accountability in law enforcement.
- Strengthening inclusive education.
This document builds on a first Consultation Report shared in July 2024 with the European Commission Coordinator on combatting racism, which focused on six key areas:
- Recognizing racism and discrimination against people of African descent as fundamental determinants of health.
- Strengthen the meaningful involvement of affected communities.
- Using respectful and inclusive language to enhance the quality of dialogue and discourse.
- Address major gaps and challenges regarding the collection, availability and comparability of equality data across EU member states.
- Breaking down silos in policy mainstreaming efforts and bolster participation in policy-making processes.
- Addressing racism and discrimination in healthcare and science and respective action points.
