On 10 February 2011 the Regional Office for Europe of OHCHR launched its first publication during a workshop on the Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred that took place in Vienna. The publication is a compilation of recommendations of the International Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination(ICERD) to the 27 EU Member States entitled: "Protection against discrimination in Europe – the work of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination".
This is the first of a series of publications that the Regional Office for Europe will be launching over the course of 2011 and it aims to provide a thematic overview of the situation regarding racial discrimination in the EU Member States. It does this by grouping the concluding observations of the Committee by article of the Convention (rather than by country). In doing this it aims to illustrate the existence of issues shared across a number of EU states as well as identify sub-regional trends and highlight good practices.
