During her one-day visit to Brussels on the 23rd of February, UN High Commissioner Navi Pillay held a series of meetings with various EU counterparts.

More than 500 people came to Brussels’ prestigious Bozar for an event to mark Human Rights Day, organized by the Regional Office for Europe and hosted jointly by the United Nations and the European Union. The film Children of War, the winner of the Geneva Humans Rights Film Festival, was introduced by its director Bryan Single and by international human rights activist Bianca Jagger.

An Expert Dialogue was held at the European Parliament in Brussels on 8 December 2010 to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families..

Human Rights Deputy High Commissioner, Kyung-wha Kang told representatives from EU Member States, EU Institutions and Social Partners in her keynote speech at the IV Equality Summit in Brussels that in the current times of economic crisis, the principles of non-discrimination and other human rights priorities cannot be set aside, waiting for fairer weather.

On 10 December, the United Nations and the European Union will jointly commemorate Human Rights Day at the Bozar cultural centre in Brussels. The event at the Bozar will begin with introductory remarks by the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Steven Vanackere.

On 24 October 2010, the Regional Office for Europe will be part of the United Nations information village on the Grand Place of Brussels.
