The United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) joined forces with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) last night, organizing a spectacular concert featuring Bai Kamara at Bozar in Brussels, to raise awareness for International Human Rights Day, 10th December.

Born in Sierra Leone, raised in the UK, Bai has lived in Brussels for over 20 years. He is a singer-songwriter and producer who has shared the stage with many international artists. His commitment to NGOs resulted in a collaboration with Youssou N'Dour at the invitation of UNHCR. With songs focusing on humanitarian themes, Bai Kamara was the perfect artist to help us highlight important human rights issues.

Bai spoke about social injustice, political and economic refuge between songs, touching upon many current global issues. He played a variety of songs from his albums, such as the five year old song ‘Refugee’, as relevant today as it was when he wrote it, and ‘I Can No Longer Place My Faith in Your Hands’.

The concert was followed by a lively reception, where cartoons depicting the Sustainable Development Goals were on display.

Bai is now preparing his next album 'R & B' to be released in May 2016.
