EU Digital Services Act
Brussels, 8 September 2020 UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, has sent a letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in response to the public consultation on the EU’s Digital Services Act. The letter highlights the importance of the ability of everyone to participate in the digital world, the need for more transparency on how platforms function, how international human rights law provides solid ground for regulating online expression and the need for effective redress mechanisms for unjustified decisions taken by digital services.
