Internship during the COVID-19 pandemic: Louis Ducarme

During the Covid-19 pandemic, remote work became the new normal, and so did virtual internships. Louis Ducarme, a 30-year-old law graduate from Belgium specialized in EU Law started his internship with the Regional Office for Europe in Brussels in March, just two weeks before the country and the regional office went into full lockdown.

What should the EU do to better protect democracy in the digital age?

In December 2020, the European Commission launched both the European Democracy Action Plan and the Digital Services Act. The race to regulate the digital space is on and most approaches place the responsibility for content moderation with companies, often with limited transparency and emphasis on takedowns rather than protection for lawful speech. UN Human Rights Regional Office for Europe and the Center for Democracy and Technology brought together EU policy-makers and international experts for a discussion on where to strike the balance.
